Southwest Texas State University's 22,000-plus traditional and Non-traditional students celebrated its 100th Anniversary in 1999. Undergraduate, Masters and Ph.D. programs feed this area's educationally high maturation rate.
The population of San Marcos is still comfortably less than 50,000 inhabitants. With its many churches, public schools, and medical center it is a safe, hospitable and progressive community in which to live and raise a family.

San Antonio and San Marcos can be seen in relation to South Central Texas. San Marcos is 50 miles northeast of San Antonio and 29 miles southwest of Austin. A midpoint, San Marcos is easily accessible via the IH-35 corridor and close to IH-10.
